Dance Arts Gillette has an amazing staff with a collective goal to support and inspire students of all ages & levels. Our instructors are former Professional Dancers, Certified Dance Pedagogies or hold Degrees in Education, Music and Dance. Together, we raise in the bar in Quality and continue to educate ourselves for the betterment of our students.
Dance Arts Gillette is blessed to have many professional connections in the Dance Community. Each year, we bring in the BEST Guest Teachers & Choreographers from across the country to enhance the education of our Students & Teachers!
Kara has been in the Dance Profession for over 20 years. Receiving most of her training in Denver, CO, she studied dance at Denver Contemporary Dance, Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School, and the Denver Dance Center. She was an ensemble member of The Denver Contemporary Dance Theatre under the direction of the late Thomas Dixon. She has appeared in many dance and theater productions throughout the state. She also worked as class demonstrator for her mentor, Ms. Franca Telesio Smith at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance School. She has been blessed to study with many world renowned choreographers and teachers; Gary Abbot, Milton Myers, Franca Telesio, Debra Mercer, Susan Richardson, the late Roger Turner, the late Leni Wylliams and Ms. Betty Seibert (whom is her Cecchetti mentor and current teacher).
Throughout her career, Kara has worked with dance studios, high school & collegiate dance team, & junior/senior high school theater productions. She was a judge and class instructor for Spotlight Dance Cup. In addition, Kara also holds a B.S. in Visual Communications and worked for many years as a Graphic Artist prior to opening Dance Arts Gillette in 2015.
Kara is a Cecchetti USA Certified Ballet Instructor and studies with Ms. Betty Seibert on an on going basis. Her future goals are to further her Cecchetti Education, and obtain certifications in Horton Pedagogy (at Alvin Ailey Studios NYC) and Zena Rommett Floor-Barre Technique (NYC).
Maggie grew up dancing in Gillette, under the instruction of many local teachers, including her mother. Maggie studied dance at the University of Wyoming, and upon transferring to the University of Northern Colorado, she has the opportunity to train with Wendy Klein formerly of the Boston Ballet.
Maggie was a principal member of the Colorado Dance Collective from 2009-2012. While with the company, Maggie had the opportunity to perform in shows with acts such as the Jabbowockeez and Beat Freaks. Maggie was selected for lead roles in The Nutcracker, Stars & Stripes, and Swan Lake.
While training with Wendy Klein for over 3 years, Maggie became her class assistant and demonstrator. This amazing opportunity with her mentor, gave Maggie the knowledge and momentum for her own teaching career.
As a competitive choreographer, Maggie has won numerous awards for her work with her students. Maggie earned her P.B.T. (Progressing Ballet Technique) Certification in 2017 and is in the process of becoming a Cecchetti USA Certified Instructor.
Wherever life has taken her, Maggie has continued to cultivate her passion for dance alongside her passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. Maggie has been a part of Dance Arts Gillette since it's inception and is a crucial part of the studio's development and success.
Cheryl Ringer Tap | Yoga | Ballet Assistant
Cheryl grew up in Casper, WY singing and dancing in a trio with her two sisters. She attended college at the University of Wyoming where she received a degree in music with a minor in Dance and a minor in Theater. While there, she met the famous Tony Coppola who she studied tap with for several years following and using his methods and practices in her class formats.
Cheryl taught competitive dance in Casper after receiving her Bachelors degree, and later returned for her Master's degree in music. She has continued to dance, not only in tap, jazz, and ballet, but also in Competitive Ballroom. After receiving a second Master's degree in Education from Black Hills State University and raising three children, Cheryl returned to teaching and currently teaches music at Pronghorn Elementary and directs the Campbell County Children's Chorale.
In addition to teaching all levels tap at Dance Arts Gillette, Cheryl is a certified Yoga teacher, and often holds Yoga classes for our students to help with alignment, flexibility and overall body awareness. She has recently began training again with Mr. Tony Coppola to enhance her dancing & teaching skills for the betterment of her students. Cheryl is also in training to become a Certified Cecchetti USA instructor.
Lindsey Lundvall Primary Dance | Rehearsal Staff
Lindsey grew up in Rapid City, SD and began dance training at Prima School of Dancing at the age of 3. She studied a variety of dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop. She furthered her dance experience by dancing on the dance team at South Dakota State University. After college, she had a wonderful opportunity to return to her home studio to teach dance. She taught Creative Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip-Hop. At Prima, she worked with kids of all ages through the advanced levels.
Lindsey has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s degree in School Counseling. She has been teaching in CCSD for 7 years. She has taught 3rd and 5th grade, and is currently the School Counselor at Buffalo Ridge Elementary School.
Lindsey is married to her husband Shay (a Gillette native) and together they have called Gillette home for 10 years. They have two beautiful children, Skylin (5) and Breckin (5). Lindsey is an avid runner and has completed numerous half-marathons and several marathons.
As our lead Primary Dance Instructor her classes are a brilliant balance of structure & creativity perfect for the young energetic age group she is passionate about teaching. She has been a FAVORITE of both students and parents!
Lee Sowada Pilates | Rehearsal Staff
Lee was born and raised in Wyoming. She enjoyed dance throughout her childhood and teenage years, so much so she pursed dance in College. Attending undergraduate school at Colorado State, Lee earned degrees in Dance and Speech Communication. During this time, she also earned a Certification in Pilates with Mat and Equipment expertise.
She went on to teach Pilates for 8 years after that in Portland, OR, meanwhile continuing her studies to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Pacific University, graduating with distinction. She moved to Denver, CO for a time and worked in a clinic that combined Pilates and PT. She took hundreds of hours of additional coursework including education in current pain science and treatment of chronic pain conditions, orthopedic and manual therapy interventions, dry needling and nutrition as it relates to physical therapy.
In 2017 was awarded the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification. She is the only PT in Wyoming to have earned this credential. Lee is married to Adrian Gerrits and has two children Coen and Sloan. She enjoys Pilates, Yoga, jogging, dancing in the living room with her son, and sitting on her back porch on a sunny afternoon. Lee feels to fortunate to do what she does in this community!
Melissa Woolf Dance Arts Youth Company Rehearsal Director
Melissa has 30+ years dance experience in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip-hop. Her love for the art of dance started in Queens, NY where she was born and raised. Melissa moved to Colorado as a young adult and continued studying dance in Denver. She was a 4-year Varsity member of her high school dance team & was on the dance team at the University of Colorado. Where she eventually came back as an assistant coach for the Buffs dance team. She became a head instructor/choreographer for the Universal Dance Association and has judged many national dance competitions. She has also coached and choreographed for many nationally ranked high school dance teams. She was the head coach for the 8 time 5A State Pom Champion Grandview High School.
As a professional, Melissa worked for Stiletto Entertainment and Holland America Cruise Line for several years. As a dancer in their elaborate production shows, Melissa was able to travel the world and still perform for a nightly audience. Melissa received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Special Education from the Metropolitan State College of Denver. For several years, Melissa worked as a preschool special education assistant teacher. She went on to start her own company InsideOut Creative Movement, providing creative dance classes for caregivers and children ages 3 months to 4 years. Melissa loves working with all ages and sharing her passion of performance. Melissa has recently moved to Gillette with her husband and two children. She is excited to have found a new teaching role and dance family with Dance Arts!
